Gonzales, LA – The City of Gonzales is set to bring the Christmas season to light with two very special events being held in the city.

On Tuesday, December 1, the annual lighting of the City of Gonzales Christmas tree will be taking place at City Hall on Irma Boulevard. The tree is decorated and waiting on Mayor Barney Arceneaux to flip the switch promptly at 6:00 p.m. The public is invited to attend and watch area Girl Scouts sing carols.

Once the tree has been lit, revelers can take a simple stroll, while viewing the numerous lit decorations on the City Hall property, to the Gonzales Civic Center to visit with Jolly Old St. Nick himself. Each child in attendance will receive a gift, and visitors can delight in performances by the Center Stage Performing Arts Academy.

Hot chocolate will be provided by the city and jambalaya will be served through a generous donation from the Jambalaya Festival Association. EATEL is also a special sponsor of this event.

On Tuesday, December 8, the Gonzales Civic Center will play host to the merriment of the season by holding their annual Senior Citizens Christmas party. Growing in number as the years go by, this event is a highlight of the seniors’ social calendar.

Beginning at 10:00 a.m., area senior citizens are invited to partake in a mingle with a jingle theme. A Christmas meal will be provided, with the assistance of Tee Wayne Abshire, LeBlanc’s Food Stores, Carlico’s Cafe and the Gonzales Rotary Club. Drinks will be provided by the Coca Cola Bottling Company. Kenny Fife will also be on-hand to provide entertainment, and trust us when we say, there’s nothing quite as merry as watching our area senior citizens enjoy the dancing and fellowship of the event.

“Mayor Barney Arceneaux, the entire City of Gonzales Council, administration and staff look forward to these events annually,” said City of Gonzales Public Information Officer Charlotte Guedry. “Seeing the coming together of our area families and senior citizens at one of the most magical times of the year is a joy for us all. No one throws celebrations like the City of Gonzales, and our Christmas events are no exception. We urge everyone to join us, as you won’t want to miss these wonderful holiday moment of family, festive fun.”
