City of Gonzales Recognizes “Angela Batiste Jones” Day

Gonzales, LA – January 15, 2025 – The City of Gonzales is excited to recognize January 8, 2025, as “Angela Batiste Jones Day” in celebration of Angela Batiste Jones’ 102nd birthday and an exemplary life lived.

Angela Batiste Jones was born on January 8, 1923, to the parentage of the late Albert and Louise Greenfield Batiste, in Hope Villa, LA, where she was reared with eight brothers and five sisters. She married Falbert Jones and relocated to Prairieville, LA. The couple was blessed with six children – Lee Nova West, Willie Jones, Ella L. Jones, Ruby L. Jones, Viola Jones, and Linda Jones; twenty-five grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.

Angela Batiste Jones retired as a Senior Citizen Volunteer in 1998 from Our Lady of the Lake Baton Rouge and is known as a woman of immense faith who loved to sing in the choirs of her church affiliations since a very early age. She possesses a humble and loving spirit renowned for her many acts of charity and compassion to unfortunate community members.

“It is amazing to think of all of the things Mrs. Jones has seen in her life,” says Mayor Riley. “Born in the roaring 20s, and living through the deepest depressions, Mrs. Jones’ cheerful disposition should be a lesson for us all. We are humbled and honored to recognize “Angela Batiste Jones Day” on January 8th in the City of Gonzales.”

Therefore, Mayor Timothy “Tim” Riley and the Gonzales City Council acting as the governing authority for the City of Gonzales, State of Louisiana, do hereby wish to express our congratulations on the Celebration of her 102nd Birthday and hereby declare January 8, 2025, as “Angela Batiste Jones Day.”
