Mayor Riley Proclaims May 6, 2025 as “Margaret Gay Haines Day”

WHEREAS: The City of Gonzales is excited to recognize May 6, 2025 as Margaret Gay Haines Day in celebration of Margaret Gay Haines 101st birthday and an exemplary life lived; and

WHEREAS: Margaret Gay Haines was born on May 6, 1924 to the parentage of the late Gertrude Lee and Lewis Gay in New Orleans, LA. She was their only child; and

WHEREAS: Margaret married Edward Haines; and

WHEREAS: The union of Margaret and Edward was blessed with three children – Sandra Haines Miles, Edwian Haines Taylor, and the late Marva Haines Gasper – and three grandchildren; and

WHEREAS: Margaret was a seamstress and retired after forty years of doing what she loved. After retirement, Margaret enjoyed playing bingo, going to the casino, exercising, and just spending time with her family; and

WHEREAS: Margaret attended St. Gabriel Catholic Church of New Orleans as a faithful member; and

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Mayor of the City of Gonzales does hereby commend Ms. Margaret Gay Haines for an exemplary life well lived; and

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED, the Mayor and the City Council acting as the governing authority for the City of Gonzales, State of Louisiana, do hereby wish to express our congratulations on the Celebration of her 101st Birthday and hereby declare May 6, 2025 as

“MARGARET GAY HAINES DAY”
