GPD’s Officer Davin Miller receives Life Saving Commendation

GPD’s Officer Davin Miller received a Life Saving Commendation at Monday’s meeting of the City Council. The commendation read:

On Wednesday, (5/28/2025), officers were dispatched to New Orleans Daiquiri’s located at 1810 West Louisiana Highway 30 in reference to a fight that led to subjects shooting at each other in the parking lot. Members of Squad 4 responded to the scene. Corporal Miller responded from his extra duty detail, OLOL-St. Elizabeths.

Upon arrival, officers started to assess the situation. They were met by employees of the business and advised all subjects had fled the scene. Corporal Miller spoke with a female subject that advised subjects had fled east through the fence line towards Highland Inn.

Corporal Miller quickly relayed this information to other officers on scene.

FTO Zeringue started searching the area and observed a large amount of bright red blood in the parking lot of New Orleans Daiquiris leading to the fence line with Highland Inn. Following the blood, officers located a subject that advised his cousin had been shot and directed them through a hole in the fence to a male subject laying on the ground, bleeding profusely from his lower left leg and complaining of difficulty breathing.

Corporal Miller applied a tourniquet to the leg while FTO Zeringue performed a BATH assessment to the victim. Both officers continued to provide care to the victim until Gonzales Fire Rescue arrived on scene.

Corporal Miller and FTO Zeringue demonstrated the ability to effectively manage stress while maintaining composure and were able to provide medical aid to a victim of a gunshot wound. Their swift, coordinated and professional efforts exemplify the highest standards of the Gonzales Police Department.
