GPD’s Officer Christina Barnes received a Distinguished Service Commendation during Monday’s meeting of the City Council. The commendation read:
Officer Barnes has been with the Gonzales Police Department since August 5, 2020. During this time, Officer Barnes has shown her dedication to the police department and fellow officers. From June 1, 2024 to May 31, 2025, Officer Barnes responded to 201 calls for service as the primary officer and made 20 arrests.
However, these numbers do not accurately reflect Officer Barnes. Officer Barnes volunteers as a Field Training Officer and mentors young officers.
During that one-year timeframe, approximately 168 shifts, Officer Barnes had a trainee with her for 65 shifts. Officer Barnes had a trainee with her for more than one-third of the year.

Since volunteering to become an FTO, Officer Barnes has provided a total of 109 training days, training seven new officers. Additionally, Officer Barnes volunteers as a member of the hiring board.
